January 17-20

This week we learned the word family am, the blend sl and the sight words are and his.  Our number word was eight.

Spelling with the am word family.
When we spell we are learning when to choose c and when to choose k.  K will only "stand by his buddies e, i, and y."  If it is any other letter behind the /c/ sound, you must choose C.
We are learning to tell if a word we spell is a real word or a nonsense word like quam.  We are practicing always adding a u when we spell with a q.  We are also learning that if the word is a name, it must begin with a capital letter.
These smart friends spelled all of the words on their am word family spelling test correctly.
These rock stars spelled their words correctly AND used the correct lower case and capital letters.  Way to go girls!
In math we continued our study of learning the coins.
These guys made a 100 on their money math test!
In science we read books about animals in winter.  We learned about hibernation.
In social studies we finished up our study of good citizens.  We were able to experience the Inauguration on Friday.  We learned that the United States is special because we vote on our leaders and we enjoy a peaceful transfer of power.
This guy made me laugh!  In his picture of the Inauguration he made a speech bubble with Trump saying, "Make Our World Great Again!"  He has been listening to the news.  :)

Thank you to these families for sending us cereal boxes for our STEAM challenge!
This guy lost his first tooth in the lunchroom!
This sweet girl was my Student of the Week!
