January 12-16

This week we learned about the word family at.  We reviewed all of our letters and sounds and sight words.

Here we are creating at words.  We are beginning to learn digraphs, such as ch, sh, th, and wh.  We are also learning consonant blends like fl, br, sp, and so on.

We have read several Jan Brett books since Christmas.  This is an activity we did about the story The Hat.  Ask your child if they can tell you what is special about Jan Brett's illustrations.  (They should be able to say that she predicts upcoming events in the story in the picture frames around the edges of her illustrations.)

We drew to see what characters we were going to write about from our story Mole and Baby Bird.  Your child should be able to write two sentences about any given topic with correct capitalization and punctuation.  They of course are not expected to spell words correctly, but to write them phonetically.  They should be able to spell most of the sight words we have learned.

In math we are learning about the penny, nickel, dime, and quarter.  Your child should be able to recognize the coins and know how much they are worth.  We are beginning to learn to count groups of coins.  Here the boys are showing some of the different ways they found to make 10 cents.

In science we talked about winter animals.  Here we sorted animals into groups.

So proud of my class! Everyone was able to receive an award at the Awards Ceremony on Friday.

This sweet girl from my class was drawn to be the winner of the lunch with Mrs. McCutcheon and Mr. Marshall.

Lots of thank you's are in order this week to our awesome parents!! This sweet girl's family donated new stickers to the class for our sticker books!  We were excited to use them!

This awesome boy's family always sends me M&M's.  I give out a ton of M&Ms a day and this helps me so much!

Thank you for the awesome donations for our class room grocery store.

We had so much fun with this week's Mystery Readers!  Thank you so much for volunteering.  In the first picture you can see our birthday boy of the week, enjoying a special visit from his dad!

I love this Bulldog of the Week!  He is always excited about learning...he is pretty much excited about everything...and that is what makes him so fun!
