This week we reviewed the sight words play and not. We also reviewed all of our letters and sounds.
We learned the word family -at this week. We practiced spelling all the words that end with at....rat, mat, cat, that. On Friday, we took our very first "spelling test." The kids learned to number their paper and to listen to the words called aloud and they had to write them down and keep up with me as I said each word. I told them that they could not use ANY capital letters or backwards letters. These three kids holding their papers in the picture above were our three perfect scores!! If this was hard for your child, do not worry. We will do it every Friday with a new word family each time. They will get so much better with practice.
This week in math we learned about pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. The children should be able to recognize them and tell you their value. We even learned how to count pennies, nickels, and dimes.
In science we learned about animals in the winter. We learned about hibernation.
In social studies, we learned all about Martin Luther King, Jr. We learned that he changed our world and made it possible for all of us to go to school together and be friends...no matter the color of our skin. I love how much this class loves each other.
Thank you to this family for their donation!
I want to remind you to sign your child's books each night. This is a picture of students getting stickers in their sticker books for reading their home readers and having them signed.
