May 30-June 2

This week we learned about Memorial Day.
We celebrated this fun guys birthday.
We did not have an awards ceremony, but we were able to give these awards in class. The art teacher chose this young lady from all of kindergarten for the Amazing Artist award.  The music teacher chose this young man for the Young Musician award from all of kindergarten.
These awesome kids had perfect attendance for THE WHOLE YEAR!
Way to go!
We really enjoyed the graduation ceremony.  Thank you for attending.

House meetings this week were exciting.  Here are some pictures of the green and orange team playing Hungry Hippo against each other.  The red team won for the last six weeks and they had a party!
Duck Duck Goose fun on the last day of school.

Thank you so much for all of your support this year.  I have enjoyed teaching all of your children.  I hope to see them around Back next year as first graders.

May 22-26

We are celebrating the summer birthdays of these three cuties this week and next week.
We enjoyed celebrating the last day for Miss Lindsey.  She has done a great job this year.  We hope she has a wonderful senior year next year at Sachse High School!

We had so much fun at our House Party Field Day!

May 15-19

This week we spent our time in ELA reading non fiction books about dolphins.  We are currently creating our very first research paper about all of the things we have learned about dolphins.

In math we have worked on completing some step up to first grade math skills.  This is a game where the students were matching tens and ones to the correct number.

We did our math outside on "outside day".

Friday was Miss Brenda's last day with us because she is a senior.  We wish her luck as she heads off to college to become a teacher herself.  We are proud of you!
Thank you to these families for helping their students complete their Super Kid pages and returning them with a picture.  We are excited to hang them in the hallway for graduation.  If your child has not completed their page, please help them.  If you have any questions please email me at jldefeo@garlandisd.net.

May 8-12

This week we learned about our final word family, the ub word family.  We reviewed our sight words and letter blends.
On Friday I sent home our vocabulary journals we have been writing in since the first day of school.  They were falling apart!  I hope you take the time to read what your child wrote each day.  I love to look at these journals and see the progress that the kids have made.  You can look at the date on each page to celebrate the growth of your child's writing.  I am so proud of all they have learned.

In math this week we finished our study of personal financial literacy.  Your child should know that if you work for money it is called income.  They also should understand that we are to use our money that we make for our needs before we buy our wants.  The kids know that when they receive money, they can either spend it, save it, or share it with those in need.

This is a ridiculous amount of pictures from one event, but we had so much fun on Friday celebrating M day with Minute to Win it games.  These kids are so fun!
Just three weeks to go!  Please remember to join us on Wednesday, May 31st at 1:30 in the Back cafeteria to see these superstars receive their diplomas.
